1978 Chevy no gear shift stickers

I'm planning to buy a 78 Chevy 3/4 Ton four-wheel drive but the person doesn't even know what is 4W low vs 4w high? The 4WD shifter has a total of 4 positions but there aren't really stickers or labels (it looks like they've fallen out due to old age. But anyway, forward and the 4WD light comes on at third position too. What is it? Help.

The four shifter positions are likely 2WD, 4WD high, 4WD low, and neutral so, the light coming on in the third position probably means it's engaging 4WD low, which is for tough off roading. Make sure the shifter fully locks in place when switching between modes. Also, you'd want tocheck the transfer case and linkage for wear before buying.
