I've been testing various liquids on my snowplow to get a better handle on performance and longevity, especially through brutal winter conditions. It started when I noticed some hydraulic fluid getting sluggish in the cold, and then I found minor corrosion spots popping up around fittings despite regular maintenance. Since then, I've tried different hydraulic oils with varying viscosity ratings, tested anti freeze mixes beyond just the engine coolant, and even experimented with some additives aimed at reducing wear and freezing issues.
The goal is to find a combo that keeps the hydraulics responsive, prevents freezing or thickening, and protects the metal components from rust without needing constant topping off or breakdowns mid plow. any tips on how you test or switch fluids without causing damage? would love to hear your experiences before I lock in a routine for the next season.

Last winter, I encountered the same issue when my plow's hydraulics started acting sluggish in the deep freeze. I switched to a low-viscosity, winter-grade hydraulic fluid, and it made a world of difference. It kept everything moving without hesitation. I also found that an anti-corrosion additive helped stop rust creeping around fittings. Have you checked if your seals are holding up or starting to stiffen in the cold? That was another headache I had to deal with.
 
Stick with the manufacturer's spec fluid but swap to a low temp synthetic for winter, it makes a big difference in responsiveness, my guy did it last winter and when testing, flush the system completely before switching so you don't mix fluids,
 
With the fluids aside which can help a lot, I'd also say invest in a heater blanket which greatly helps with temps, esepcially during extreme cold.
