Ice melt reccomendation?

I need to melt some ice that's in front of my garage but i don't really know what brand to buy or if you have other recomentations about melting ice please let me know. Can you use water softener salt to melt ice? I've seen people doing it with water softener salt but is it really working and how fast?

you can use water softener salt to melt ice, it works, but not as fast as actual ice melt since the pellets are bigger and take longer to dissolve. If you need something quicker, go for calcium chloride or magnesium chloride; they work in colder temps and act faster.

not sure if the softener would do a good job. It might melt the ice, but it won't be as effective as you may think. You might use it in a pinch but don't expect miracles. If possible, get yourself some of those commercial ice melters that would go a much faster and better job

Softener salt works fine but if you want more effective and faster melting you should look for ice melt blends that include calcium chloride or magnesium chloride.

You can do either rock salt, calcium chloride, or magnesium chloride.

Yup, you can def use water softner salt, it works, just kinda slow since the chunks are big n take longer to break down. I've done it when I was outta ice melt, but if it's super cold it ain't great. If ya wanna get it done quicker, grab some calcium chloride stuff
